Bookaway is an online ground travel platform, dedicated to creating the easiest way to book ground travel services from local transportation suppliers worldwide. We source the largest database of suppliers worldwide, so we can help travelers find the best services and easily plan trips while helping our partners go online and expand their customer reach.

We are looking for a VP of R&D to join our journey as we continuously grow and change the travel industry landscape. The ideal candidate will be a leader who can manage and mentor multiple cross-functional engineering teams and build a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement while establishing and tracking KPIs, metrics, and goals to ensure that individual and team performance aligns with overall business objectives.

As VP of R&D, you will join our leadership team, and report directly to our CEO.

Responsibilities:

• Define R&D team strategy and methodologies, optimizing the work process and efficiency, with direct responsibility for R&D objectives and KPIs.
• Connect the dots between technology and business and be responsible for executing both long and short-term delivery, emphasizing rapid iteration, quick time-to-market, and cross-functional collaboration to improve outcomes, processes, and user feedback continuously.
• Ensure that the architecture decisions are designed with scalability, flexibility, and maintainability in mind.
• Team and people management, including hiring, training, personal growth plans, and striving for excellence in all we do.

• 2 years experience as a VP of R&D or Director of R&D from a big start-up (managed more than 15 devs in multiple teams).
• Proven experience in planning, architecting, and executing large and complex software systems with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven team building experience - sourcing and recruiting multiple top talent engineers in different seniority levels, coaching team leads, and motivating staff through learning and development.
• Ability to perform under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
• B2C best practice knowledge - an advantage.
