The role
We are looking for a Country Manager (Business Development Team Leader) to drive our growth as the first-choice VDR provider in Japan. Based in Tokyo and reporting directly to the VP of East Asia Business Development, you’ll build up and lead a high-performing sales team to foster key partnerships, clients, explore untapped markets, and help attain our ambitious revenue targets.
Your strategic initiatives will shape the industry with cutting-edge VDR solutions while ensuring an exceptional client experience. We seek a proven sales leader with a strong Japan network who’s passionate about value-based selling, team development, and performance. You’ll analyze sales metrics to inform strategies and coach your team to exceed targets.

What you will do
- Lead a team of Field Sales professionals fostering collaboration within the team and across the customer lifecycle
- Manage business development metrics and drive functional outcomes
- Recruit experienced individuals for each functional role and own a rapid onboarding process for new team members
- Attract high-potential individual contributors and scale across field sales teams
- Encourage continuous learning & development within the team
- Mentor and coach your team to meet personal and business goals
- Drive the performance appraisal process for the team
- Define operational metrics for the team
- Expose a subset of metrics to the executive team, company, and board
- Align with marketing, product, customer success, finance, and executive teams around objectives
- Cultivate new business and develop partnerships
- Support closure of strategic deals and nurture partnerships to ensure both immediate and long-term success
- Lead by example in setting team vision, interacting with customers, managing deals, participating in company leadership forums, and attending industry events that demonstrate our values
- Learn from best practices in the industry keeping up to date on markets, segments, customers, new products, competition status, external forces, feeding insights into planning
What you bring
- At least 10 years of hands-on experience in new business development sales with 4+ years of outbound sales managerial experience
- Experience with managing high-velocity and volume sales strategy in more than one geographic area
- Professional sales background within the B2B SaaS industry
- Solid experience in system transactional sales, sales methodology, and techniques, sales and negotiation practices
- Experience managing at least 8+ employees across field sales teams, including hiring, motivating, coaching, and developing teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (C1+ level) to engage with global stakeholders and professional/native Japanese
- Profound leadership skills with a passion to foster a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture
- Proactivity and high enthusiasm for driving results and achieving goals
- Consistent focus on delivering the best customer experience
